What is the Lemon Law?

The lemon law protects the consumer from defects in motor vehicles that substantially impair its use, value, or safety.  Generally speaking, if the vehicle has been repaired 2 to 4 times for the same defect within the warranty period and the defect has not been fixed, the car qualifies as a Lemon.  All states differ, so consult our state directory at the bottom of this page for your particular state.  Please be aware that the warranty period may not coincide with the Manufacturer's Warranty.
Do I need a Lemon Law Attorney?

This question depends upon which state you purchased your vehicle from.  In some states, you just file a complaint. In other states, you hire an attorney.  Only about half the states allow you to recover Attorney fees.  Since laws change, we recommend that you contact a Lemon Law Attorney in your state for more information.

Before consulting an attorney, gather up documentation, repair invoices,
and any other information that will help support your case.  No attorney should charge for initial consultation.
